Q: How do I install the project?
A: This project uses TomTom Home for installation.

  1. TomTom Home 1.x: Start/open TomTom Home, choose menu "File" and there submenu "Preferences...". In the following window the directory besides "Extra content" of the "Advanced"-tab is the place, to where to copy the files from the package.
  2. TomTom Home 2.x: Start/open TomTom Home, choose menu "File" and there submenu "Folder Preferences...". In the following window the directory besides "Downloads" contains a directory "complete", which is the target directory to where to copy the files from the package.
Download the package from my website, extract the *.toc- and the *.cab-file and copy these two to the target directory. If the target directory does not yet exist, create it!
  1. TomTom Home 1.x: If the project is not yet shown in TomTom Home, quit TomTom Home completely and restart it.
Select it for installation and install it.
  2. TomTom Home 2.x: If the project is not yet shown in TomTom Home under "Add Maps, Traffic, Voices etc.", there on the second page under "Items on my computer" (tab "Applications"), quit TomTom Home completely and restart it.
    Choose "Add".
Now unlink your TomTom safely from your PC using the little green remove-hardware-safely-arrow in your tray on the bottom right, next to your clock.

Q: How do I de-install the project?
A: Just remove the files and directories from your TomTom, that are included in the package.

Q: Where on earth can I use Daylight?
A: You can use Daylight all over the world where you receive GPS-signals (because it calculates the times it has to switch for your position at that moment) except positions more north than 60 degrees and more south than -60 degrees, the relatively simple formula I am using doesn't support that. Outside this range, Daylight (NOT your TomTom) will crash and you will have to switch from day to night by hand again, it will restart when you first start your TomTom in the range again.

Q: Ok, now I'm trying it but nothing happens...?
A: Make sure your TomTom receives satellite signals!

Q: How to configure the times that Daylight switches the colors?
A: You don't have to configure "times" because Daylight calculates the height of the sun over the horizon and switches when it reaches x degree-minutes. These degree-minutes are configured in file daylight/daylight.cfg. Because of this Daylight will switch every day at the same light condition, not the same time!

Q: Ok, then how to configure the angles that Daylight switches the colors?
A: There is an appropriate button (named Configure Daylight) in the ZIP-package that should appear on the last page of the original menu or you can add it to a custom menu ("MENUITEM|TASK_SDK1|"). If you press the button, Daylight calculates the actual angle and saves it in the configuration file.
Notice: There are TWO angles stored, one for the morning and one for the evening, so if you are not satisfied with the default switching conditions you have to press the button once in the morning and once in the evening!

Q: What happens if I already have switched manually?
A: Daylight tells the system to switch to day- or night-mode just once at the calculated time, if you already have switched nothing will happen.

Q: I don't want Daylight to tell me that is't running and what it's doing, what can I do?
A: Just set TELLMEMORE in file daylight.cfg to 0.

Q: Where did you get the formula to calculate the switching times?
A: I got it from http://lexikon.astronomie.info/zeitgleichung/.
